The license to use the trademark now belongs to Chinese Transsion Group, which manufactures smartphones under the Tecno, Infinix and itel brands.
It is not yet known what the new devices will look like: with a proprietary QWERTY keyboard or in a purely touchscreen format? Transsion hasn’t made any official announcements, but sources suggest the first models could appear by the end of next year.
BlackBerry was once a symbol of business and security but lost the market after the launch of the iPhone.
But the brand still has loyal fans, and its style inspires manufacturers such as the Unihertz Titan 2, which continues the tradition of “keyboard” smartphones.
