Scientists have introduced a new indicator: speech perception deficit compensation index (SPDCI). It is calculated by comparing actual speech test results with predictions obtained using a Bayesian network. This allows us to measure the effectiveness of the hearing aid for each patient.
513 people, 403 of whom were hearing aid users, participated in the research. All of them underwent a comprehensive examination, including pure tone audiometry and speech tests in various acoustic conditions.
During development, it was taken into account that patients with the same hearing impairment may perceive speech differently due to individual cognitive characteristics. Traditional methods do not always take these differences into account, making the selection of the most suitable device difficult.
