According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 will most likely stay with the Lightning connector, but at least one new iPhone 15 model will feature a USB-C port. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman soon confirmed that Apple is indeed testing prototype USB-C iPhone models.
Additionally, Apple plans to upgrade the budget iPad with a USB-C port, according to 9to5Mac’s Philip Esposito. The release of the 10th generation iPad will complete Apple’s transition to USB-C across its entire iPad lineup.
After the iPhone’s transition to USB-C, Kuo said he expects other Apple accessories to switch to USB-C in the near future, including charging cases for AirPods.
Another accessory that Kuo expects to switch from Lightning to USB-C in the future is the MagSafe battery pack for iPhone 12 and newer models.
In addition, he expects Apple’s trio of Magic Keyboard for Mac, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse (keyboard, trackpad and mouse) to migrate to USB-C ports as well. Currently, all three accessories are equipped with a Lightning connector.
