Chipmaker Qualcomm is showing solid growth amid the global semiconductor crisis due to coronavirus and sanctions restrictions around the world. And being at the height of its success, the corporation announced a new sponsorship deal with the English football club Manchester United.
The company says this long-term global strategic partnership with one of the world’s most popular football clubs will help popularize the business and drive the creation of a new line of Snapdragon chipsets, writes Gizmochina.
The company now provides partners with two high-performance premium microchips Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 + Gen 1, which are in high demand.
At this time, Qualcomm does not directly manufacture smartphones or sell products directly to consumers. And, in general, the company is currently unlikely to develop devices and reach end users.
In this context, it is not entirely clear how brand awareness, which will increase after the conclusion of a new sponsorship contract, will actually help the business.
However, the official version is this: Qualcomm will take advantage of Manchester United’s large audience to promote its chips.
The company seems to be betting on emotional attachment from fans as it announces side events to create a positive brand experience.
As part of the collaboration, Qualcomm will also provide technical support for the club’s planned mobile connectivity upgrades at its home stadium, Old Trafford.
