The German hotel group Ruby Hotels has found an unconventional way to attract more applicants: the employer promises to pay for a tattoo, a piercing or a new haircut after six months of cooperation (at the rate of €500 per person).

German hoteliers attract 25% more job seekers thanks to tattoos

Since the launch of the offer in June, the number of job applications at Ruby Hotels has increased by 25% (and this despite the summer holidays). The offer will be valid until the end of the year, writes CNN.

“Given the staffing shortage in the hospitality industry across Europe, this is a very good result,” said Uta Scheurer, Ruby’s vice president of human resources.

In the cutthroat post-pandemic world of HoReCa, getting the best employees is the absolute key to success. And if cool staff can be lured in with the promise of new tattoos, so be it.

In addition, it is fully in line with the values of the Ruby Hotels chain, which has 16 hotels throughout Europe and wants to see among its ranks “team players who value character, soul and individuality”:

“We love people with strong personalities, they are the ones we want to communicate with. The combination of unique characters is what creates the atmosphere and is at the heart of Ruby’s success.”

Tattoos, piercings and hairstyles are a very personal story. And by mentioning them, Ruby’s management demonstrates that they are committed to encouraging their employees to always be themselves and openly display their individual success story.

Uta Scheurer adds that so far, judging by surveys, it is tattoos that attract applicants the most (more piercings or hairstyles). This shows that HR professionals hit people hard with their approach.

At the same time, employees who have been working for a long time will not be left out either. The plan worked so well that management expanded it.

“Veterans” can recommend their acquaintances for a particular position, and if they hire you, the brand will pay for a tattoo for each of them.
