Ad blockers will stop working in Google Chrome. This will happen in 2023, Reddit users noted, when a new programming interface is introduced in the browser.

Ad blockers will stop working in Google Chrome

The changes will affect the Manifest V2 manifest: the browser store will no longer accept plugins developed on this manifest and will switch to a new one: Manifest V3.

Plugin developers will need to update their products to support the new interface, but all ad blockers only work on V2. After June 2022, Google Chrome support will completely disable support for this interface.

Ad blockers as such won’t be removed from the Chrome Store, but they will get worse: ad filter databases will be updated less frequently, and it will be harder for extensions to intercept ad requests.
