In previous studies, experts have found that doctors and their patients have different attitudes towards being overweight. Patients often associate this with factors they cannot control (hormones, genetics, etc.), and doctors often associate it with behavioral factors that are under a person’s control.

In the new study, experts examined how overweight patients and doctors interacted. This study included 27 general practitioners and 587 patients from three regions of France.

It turns out that such patients often disagreed with their doctors (in most cases, agreement between doctors and patients was poor or moderate).

Additionally, the more overweight the patient, the more disagreements she had with her doctor. Especially often, such patients do not agree with the recommendations regarding weight loss, increased physical activity and nutrition.

News cannot be equated with a doctor’s prescription. Consult an expert before making a decision.
