AMD seems to have a new technology in the works for overclocking memory modules. AMD EXPO (Extended Profiles for Overclocking) will likely be the new name for RAMP (Ryzen Accelerated Memory Profile) that came out some time ago. Expo will be the equivalent of Intel’s XMP.
In February of this year, AMD filed a trademark application for the term “AMD EXPO” and its description indicates that the technology is related to memory modules. According to VideoCardz sources, there will be two profiles in memory working with EXPO technology. The first profile is optimized for maximum memory bandwidth, while the second is low lateness being directed. While VideoCardz states that this second profile is optional, the latter could be an interesting option for gaming.
EXPO should be compatible with all ddr5 memory formats, including sodimms used in laptops. This may indicate that overclocking memory modules in AMD laptops will become an option in the future. Current Ryzen 6000 APUs with ddr5 do not yet support this and are limited to ddr5-4800 and lpddr5-6400.
According to one employee, we can often see the name EXPO because AMD wants to invest heavily in extreme overclocking. However, it seems unlikely that the technology will come to the old processors of the brand.
