Customers will also soon be able to enjoy data download speeds that Comcast says are five to ten times faster than what the company currently offers. The maximum data download speed is now 200 Mbps.
Next year, the company will launch tariffs that will enable “multi-gig” speeds for both downloads and uploads.
Comcast is currently in the process of transitioning to the new standard and achieved 4Gbps download and upload speeds during testing in January.
Customers located in Colorado Springs, Augusta, Panama City Beach and Philadelphia will not need to upgrade their modems to access Comcast’s higher 2Gb speeds. When Comcast begins offering symmetrical services next year, customers will need to upgrade their modems.
