IBGE data show that Nearly 28.2 million Brazilian citizens did not use the internet in 2021. The figure represents 15.3% of people over the age of 10 in Brazil, but a lower value than was found when this survey was last conducted.

In 2019, IBGE reported that 36.9 million people in Brazil did not use the internet. This number represented 20.5% of the population over the age of 10, so there has been a significant decrease in the number of people out of the network in the last two years. Similar studies were not conducted in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The main reason given for not using the Internet was not knowing how.. 42.2% of those who said they did not use technology stated that they did not use it because they did not know how to use it. Lack of interest ranks second with 27.7%. The value of equipment or subscription was a barrier for 20.1% of respondents, and only 5.3% said they did not have access where they were.

While Brazil still has a significant number of people on the internet, the percentage of those with access to the internet continues to increase. 2021 also marked the first time that more than half of seniors reported using the internet. 57.5% of the interviewees answered that people over the age of 60 had accessed, compared to 44.8% in 2019.
