In the third quarter of 2022, smartphone sales in Russia grew 1.5 times compared to the second. In July-September, retailers sold 6.5 million smartphones.
Sales growth was influenced by the restoration of the range of smartphones, the reduction of their prices and the appearance of new products on the shelves. At the end of the summer, the market was also supported by gadget purchases ahead of the school season, Izvestia reported.
China brands in total accounted for more than 70% of all unit sales in the Russian market. The average check for July-September is estimated at about 21 thousand rubles, which is 9% lower than last year.
By the end of 2022, up to 25 million smartphones may be sold. This is about 23% less than in 2021, analysts predicted.
In summer, the demand for shockproof and waterproof smartphones also increased in Russia. Consumers, amid falling incomes, want to buy a device with a longer lifespan.
Basically, these models are chosen for extreme sports or outdoor activities, but now the consumer has paid attention to them due to longer service life.
Prices for such devices on average start at 10 thousand rubles and reach about 30 thousand rubles. They are mostly sold by Chinese brands.
