The researchers found that with more experience, fitness trainers were much less likely to tolerate minor injuries and pain in their clients. Perhaps this is because over time they have learned to show more clearly how to train properly to avoid injury, says Mamunur Rashid of the University of Gavle.
The new study, published in the journal Sports, included people between the ages of 15 and 55. They were mostly men, both regular visitors to the gym and beginners. They had to answer the question about whether they had muscle pain every day for a week.
It turned out that those who worked with a trainer with less than a year of experience were twice as likely to experience muscle soreness as those with more than five years of experience. If the fitness trainer had between one and five years of experience, the probability of pain was 20% higher than those who trained with the most experienced trainers.
Overall, the participants in the study either did strength training, did flexibility exercises, or did both at the same time.
