He was fired by the company when his employer denied that the webcam should be on at all times and that the employee felt uncomfortable and saw it as a violation of privacy.

The Dutch court ruled that this justification was not sufficient to dismiss the employee. Also, “an order to leave the camera on is against the worker’s right to have their privacy respected.” The Court refers in particular to Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
