Kaliningrad Automobile Assembly Plant Avtotor has confirmed plans to produce the first batch of electric vehicles on Rosatom batteries in 2023, Interfax reports, citing Alexander Sorokin, CEO of the holding company.
Earlier, the company announced plans to invest more than 5.7 billion rubles in equipment and technologies. In September, the founder of Avtotor, Vladimir Shcherbakov, promised that by the end of October the current work would be completed and the production facilities would be redirected to the production of new models, including electric vehicles.
“Our plans to produce the first batch of 200 electric vehicles in 2023 are confirmed. They will be powered by batteries manufactured by Rosatom. They have already manufactured the first modules and handed them over to us for testing,” Sorokin said.
Currently, the company is preparing to start large-scale production, a new infrastructure is being created. The works will be carried out in new buildings, the premises are almost finished, added the general director of Avtotor.
Previously, the company specialized, among other things, in the assembly of BMW, Kia and Hyundai models.
