The SberPay contactless payment service will resume operation in November, but only on Android smartphones. The service partially ceased to function following the imposition of sanctions against Sberbank; in April the possibility of paying for purchases through SberPay with Mir cards disappeared.

Sberbank announced the imminent resumption of SberPay on Android

The resumption of SberPay on Android was announced by Kirill Tsarev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sberbank. According to him, the service will start operating in November.

“When Google Pay and Apple Pay services were still available to customers, SberPay had about two million users. Now we are convinced that this figure will increase,” Tsarev said.

Sberbank noted that the popularity of payment by QR codes has grown significantly. By the end of the year, the number of bank terminals supporting this service may grow to 1 million from the current 700,000.

Contactless payment service SberPay partially stopped working after the imposition of sanctions against Sberbank due to a special operation in Ukraine. In April, the service lost the ability to pay through SberPay with cards from the Russian payment system Mir.
