The Sennheiser Momentum line is a critically acclaimed line of earplugs that will be repeated for the last time in 2020. Now it’s time to upgrade to the third version called Momentum True Wireless 3. What are the major differences with the previous version?

At first glance, Sennheiser seems to be mainly concerned with issues that have less to do with the audio experience. The design of the Momentum True Wireless 3 is very similar to that of the Sennheiser CX and CX Plus tested by Computer!Totaal.

The manufacturer may want to focus on a clear design language, but this has the downside that all ears now look alike initially. It is true that they look premium. So if you skipped the CX Plus, you can still connect now.

Charging box with fabric outer surface

The charging case of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 is very similar to what Sennheiser offers with the 2. This time, however, the USB-C port for charging is on the front. The system also supports wireless charging, which is great. Especially considering the price.

In addition, Sennheiser says in the press release that it mainly focuses on comfort, call quality and improved active noise cancellation (ANC). But in terms of sound, the company doesn’t seem to be making any major changes compared to previous models.

These earplugs also use seven millimeter size drivers. A listening test is now available in the app where you can adjust the treble, bass and mids to suit your personal hearing. But probably the earplugs don’t differ much in sound compared to the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2.

In any case, the True Wireless 3 bluetooth audio codec supports aac, sbc and aptX Adaptive. Due to the second standard, there is no noticeable delay between the picture and the sound, and the sound can be played at a higher bitrate, provided that the playback device supports the codec.

An important pillar of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 is active noise cancellation. The manufacturer says that the system constantly monitors the environment so that the anc automatically adapts to different situations. Fortunately, there is always the option to turn the feature on or off manually or control it.

price and availability

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 is available for 249.90 euros in the Netherlands from 10 May.
