The main release of this year took place – God of War: Ragnarok was released.

This is the sequel to the “soft” reboot of the cult God of War franchise, the last part of which even came out on PC. This is not the first time Sony has said that it is time to expand the circle of fans and distributes its exclusives to personal computers.

So far, the novelty is only available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

The epic journey continues

The first part of the relaunch is probably left behind after vivid impressions. I replayed the game in America – on the PlayStation and on the PC. And both times it was captivating from start to finish.

The same can be said about the sequel. It uses the same formula as the original, but multiplies the better side and expands on the gameplay, though not as much.

The plot continues at the same place where the part ended. Thor flew to the house of Kratos and Atreus, along with Odin. But nothing comes of this, so serious conflicts arise between everyone. At the same time, Ragnarok is approaching.

The game starts the same way. epic and fast, as it was in God of War 2018. In the very first part of the game, we leave the sleigh chase, everything collapses, we fight, and then we are almost immediately thrown into the most powerful boss fight. True, in my opinion, he is inferior to the fight with Balder, but still no less spectacular.

Literally the whole game is saturated with a sense of constant epic and seriousness. Everything looks powerful: from the surrounding environment during the battles to the dialogue being brought. This game is larger than all the previous parts combined. Although, obviously, there are not so many innovations.

we have:

• extended locations (they are really larger than in a significant part)
• more kinds of enemies
• slightly complicated puzzles
• replaceable shield
• Additional tasks

The latter is heavily emphasized, and I I advise you not to run them.. Side quests not only involve a better understanding of the world and external history, but also better reveal phenomena with other sides, as well as being surprised by their mini-plots.

The developers did not talk about the fact that the parties in Ragnarok are no worse than in The Witcher 3. And it is true. They have reached the required level, immersing the players in them with their heads. In about 15 hours, I went through probably only a partial scenario, paying attention to side tasks. they are even more interesting.

But this is the only major innovation. The rest was pumped only a little. It seems that this is not a sequel, just a big DLC that has been waiting since 2018.

The picture on the PlayStation 5 looks flawless, but I can not say that she has stepped forward a lot. It’s simple slightly improved graphics essential parts, nothing more.

Game design is also stuck in 2018. The god of war does not know how to pass, obviously, in the most everyday conditions. For example, he can climb a mountain at birth, but at the same time he does not direct to step over a large branch, because he does not know how to jump. It’s funny and sad at the same time.

The leveling of qualities also remained the same. Kratos and Atreus have skill trees that unlock certain finishing moves, new attacks, and more.

Armament, as well as armor, is also pumped. You can improve the ax, bow, chains and so on. All of them have their own characteristics and magical properties, properties at the level of protection, health and other things. Nothing new here, but wider variety.

A lot of emphasis in the new game was made on the characters. They are better revealed, more is known about them, one wants to talk and talk about them. The theme of fathers and children, of course, has not gone away, but there are other branches of History here, to which made a powerful delivery the authors.

Thor and Odin became the exact opposite of the same characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These are cruel, broken, but reasonable and cold-blooded gods. You do not want to feel sorry for them, although with time you will learn a little more about your mental suffering.

It’s a big DLC, but not a standalone game

The map in God of War: Ragnarok is big. Before us are all the Nine Worlds. Each is unique and with its own characteristics: from plants and animals to enemies and inhabitants.

However structurally it’s still the old God of War. And the gameplay follows already proven tracks – dialogue, wandering, boss fight, cutscene, dialogue, wandering, and so on. Well, you get the idea.

Often in the course of our travels, we launch, climb and jump while pulling levers and throwing an ax in parallel. All these actions are repeated from time to time, only sometimes moving away quite a bit to the side.

Yes, now here at some points you can play for Atreus

Here no thoughts, no one offered to be inspired by the game of a new life. And she doesn’t need it either. While it’s a blatant Blood and Wine-style big zoom for The Witcher 3, it’s still a fantastic, whirlwind, and wildly fast-paced game.

Bad sequel, but the best contender for the game of the year

God of War: Ragnarok can hardly be called a full-fledged sequel. However, a better game in 2022 has not yet come out and is unlikely to come out.

It’s still a nice and engaging story with good graphics and familiar gameplay. And due to additional tasks here you can link exactly 30 hours. And I do not take into account collecting, notes, poems, chests, puzzles in special worlds and so on. With them, you can probably count all 40-50 hours.

If you decide to take a game with Russian voice acting, then you should buy either the Polish version or the Ukrainian one. The cheapest Turkish one has only Russian subtitles.
