Experts from the HSE Center for Labor Studies have found which workers could be replaced by robots in the future. To do this, the scientists compared the All-Russian job classifier (which includes 427 occupations) with information from the routine index, the Rosstat Labor Force Survey.
Occupations that involve largely routine activities are at risk of extinction due to automation.
Calculations by experts showed that the majority of occupations (74%) had an index below 0. This means that non-routine tasks predominate. 21 occupations were included in the most vulnerable category.
The researchers note that if the share of routine activities at work is more than 70% of total employment, then this occupation is most likely to be automated. To date, 71 occupations or 11.2% of workers have been confirmed to be in such danger.
Office workers are most at risk of being replaced by robots. This is mostly due to the fact that they perform routine tasks.
