Apple has announced the addition of end-to-end encryption to iCloud backups.

Encryption of copies has become part of the data protection system that was used on the iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Backups, notes, photos, recordings, Safari bookmarks, Siri commands, voice recorder recordings, and passes to Wallet come under encryption.

End-to-end encryption does not include iCloud mail, contacts, and calendar.

Backup encryption is already available in iOS 16.2 beta for US users. In other countries, the function will appear in early 2023. [Apple]
