These invisible sprays contain microscopic particles of urine, feces and everything else, say researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder. This poses a risk to human health.

The research team used bright green lasers and cameras to show how the spray spread through the air. Droplets fly at 2 meters per second, reaching about one meter above the toilet. The largest droplets settle on the surface. Smaller ones linger in the air for minutes. Intestinal bacteria E. coli and C. difficile, as well as noroviruses and adenoviruses can be transmitted in this way.
