Director-producer Timur Bekmambetov sold Bazelevs’ Russian film studio to his general producer Lala Rustamova and business director Timur Asadov. The deal has been completed on commercial terms, the studio is expecting a rebrand in early 2023.

Director Timur Bekmambetov has sold the Bazelevs film studio in Russia that created Night Watch and Elka

The parties did not name the amount of the transaction, but it was secured by the money the company received in 2022: fees for the distribution of Yolok 9 films and other films, the sale of content rights on VOD platforms and television rights, RBC learned.

Following the purchase, Timur Asadov will assume the role of CEO and take over the operational management of Bazelevs, while Lala Rustamova will retain the role of General Producer.

Bekmambetov has completely abandoned the Russian business, the studio cooperates with him “as with a hired director and screenwriter for the animated film Khoja Nasreddin,” Rustamova said.

The American production stays with Bekmambetov and will continue working in Los Angeles. In 2023, companies can change their name and rebrand. The disclaimer “Timur Bekmambetov’s Studio” will soon be removed from the Bazelevs website.

Bazelevs and Microsoft have decided to launch a platform for buying products in movies and TV shows. With its help, the viewer, while watching a movie or series, can buy goods in online stores from the screen.

The revenue of the Russian LLC Bazelevs in 2021 amounted to 239 million rubles, and the net profit was 10.8 million rubles. Bazelevs LLC will retain the rights to the content in Russian.
