LG may have stopped producing smartphones, but the brand continues to offer parts for the segment. Just before New Year’s, the company gave a small teaser of what the new camera module will becomponent and sensor manufacturing arm from LG Innotek.

The module promises a telephoto lens with up to 9x true optical zoom, but reduces camera bump and preserves quality. According to the South Korean brand, it will be possible to use the full zoom feature during the shoot.

Because everything happens in a single module, LG claims that manufacturers that adopt LG Innotek can be reduced in size by simplifying smartphone design. The main change is for devices that use hybrid zoom, a combination of digital and optical that degrades image quality.

“The current ‘fixed zoom module’ allows the camera to shoot with optical zoom only at a certain magnification and digital zoom is applied to other parts of magnification. For example, 4x and 9x fixed zoom modules must be installed for high definition shooting at both magnifications. For smartphone manufacturers, fewer modules will result in more space inside the phone and increased battery efficiency,” he added.

LG has previewed a week of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023. Next year’s event will take place on January 5-8. (from Thursday to Sunday of the next week), in Las Vegas, United States.
