As the end of 2022 approaches, it’s time for the beloved retrospectives. And like good Brazilians, nothing better than remembering the last 12 months with the most bombarded memes of the year, right?
From Will Smith’s controversial slap at the Oscars to the World Cup, the year has been full of internet banter. Check out the best memes of 2022 below.
The best memes of 2022
“React, wear cropped”
There’s nothing better (or worse?) than a motivational phrase to start the year off well. Keeping this in mind, an internet user advised her sister to “react and dress short” in a tweet at the end of 2021. Of course, it quickly became a meme on the Internet.

Will Smith’s Slap
How to forget Will Smith’s controversial slap to Chris Rock at Oscar 2022? It was not only the career of the actor and the face of the comedian that marked the event. The internet has talked about the subject for months, and it gave good memes in Brazil at the time.

pantanal
One of the successes on television this year was the telenovela Pantanal, a remake of the version aired by Rede Globo in 1990. The production, which broke several viewership records, was also the subject of social networks, where users mainly used the “expression” that the character Juma Marruá said the most: “Querimbora”.

“Innovative and revolutionary”
Film critic Isabela Boscov can be considered one of the “revealing” names of the internet in 2022. Although already well known to professionals in the area, his criticisms only became popular this year. After all, who hasn’t seen a video edit with the phrases “innovative and revolutionary? No” or “I thought it was so stupid, I thought it was so boring”?

Let’s go Bill!
In September, a video of a man shouting “Let’s go Bill” to a colleague while watching a plains soccer game went viral on the internet and became one of the most searched memes on Google in 2022!

“These are elite”
Another name that is frequently mentioned on the internet is the broadcaster Casimiro, who is known for reacting to different videos and programs on his Twitch channel. Casimiro coined the phrase “These elite” in one of these “reactions”. This and other reactions from the publisher, of course, became voiced in TikTok, which is used in different contexts on social networks.

elections 2022
If election season has been stressful for some, it’s a whole plate of refreshing memes for others – and this year was no different. Alongside the fierce dispute between presidential candidates Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Jair Bolsonaro, other candidates and situations have sparked jokes on the internet, including “the father of the June party” and “ne tistreza”.

World Cup 2022
One of the most anticipated events of the year, the World Cup in Qatar was celebrated with unforgettable moments that turn into memories in the hands of Brazilians, for better or worse. Even before the start of the championship, the mascot La’eeb (“homophobic tapioca” or Gasparzinho) and the Brazilian squad became the subject of jokes on social networks.
With the start of the games, other issues were on the rise, including a few live appearances by comedian Diogo Defante and of course Brazil’s loss to Croatia.
