American space company SpaceX kicked off 2023 with its 200th anniversary launch. During the Transporter-6 mission, the Falcon 9 launch vehicle launched 114 satellites into orbit at once.

SpaceX launches 114 satellites on its first mission in 2023

Falcon 9 launched from the SLC-40 complex at Cape Canaveral in Florida on Tuesday at 5:56 p.m. Moscow time. The launch was broadcast on the SpaceX website.

The latest launch was the second in history in terms of the number of vehicles put into orbit simultaneously. The record also belongs to SpaceX: in 2021, Elon Musk’s company launched 143 satellites into space at once.

For the first stage of the Falcon 9, the recent launch and landing was already the fifteenth in a row.

The largest customer for the Transporter-6 mission was Planet Labs, which sent 36 SuperDove satellites into space: vehicles with onboard telescopes to continuously monitor Earth. The Planet satellite constellation now has more than 500 vehicles.

Major participants in the mission also included:

  • Swarm Technologies, owned by SpaceX, has launched 12 SpaceBee satellites.

  • Spire, which operates a satellite weather data collection network, has shipped six LEMUR Cubostats.

  • Satellogic has launched four imaging spacecraft.

  • Kleos, based in Luxembourg, has launched four RF reconnaissance satellites into orbit.

Earlier this week it was revealed that SpaceX is raising $750 million at a valuation of $137 billion in a round that Andreessen Horowitz is expected to lead.
