Youtuber Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, will release a video in which he details why iPhone cameras are getting worse every year.

Previously, he conducted a blind photo test of the smartphone camera, in which the Google Pixel 6a took first place, and the iPhone 14 Pro was in 14th place.

According to MKBHD, the main problem with iPhones is post-processing, which can ruin photos. All smartphone manufacturers pay attention to image post-processing to programmatically improve image quality and compensate for the lack of a large sensor.

Typically these are noise reduction, white balance adjustment, and zoom increase to show more detail in dark scenes.

But Apple has taken post-processing to the next level. The Smart HDR algorithm includes multiple file setup files into one. Thanks to this, the iPhone selects the best details from different events.

Most smartphones take good pictures in good conditions such as daylight. But once the textures and colors are named, the post-processing needs to be smart enough to figure out what is the best setting for all of these elements.

The problem with Smart HDR is that it always tries to lighten shadows, especially on people’s faces, which makes photos look unnatural. The iPhone also often causes extreme harshness and does not always detect skin tones.

MKBHD believes that Apple could fix the camera that is likely found in the Google Pixel. Apple deliberately doesn’t do this because a lot of kids love it when it happens in real life.
