After years of being unused, Instagram decided to remove what was a rather controversial integration at the time. Yes, this is the Store tab, the button that has replaced the classic place occupied by the Notifications section. It seems that this integration has not yet taken root among usersfor which Instagram reported the recall.

But not only that is changing. This became part of the redesign of the app’s main screen. Now, the place occupied by the Store tab will be occupied by the Drums button, which has until now occupied a privileged position in the center of the bar. Meanwhile, the latter will once again be dominated by the “Create” button, the classic cross with which we can upload images, stories or videos to our Instagram account.

Is the Instagram Shop feature gone for good? The answer is no. Adam Mosseri, director of Instagram, commented in the video that the feature will continue to be available in videos, stories, and ads. Nevertheless, there will no longer be a tab dedicated to this feature.

Since the integration, the app was meant to be an integration of a place where businesses with Instagram accounts could post and sell their products at the same time. Unfortunately for developers Seems like there wasn’t enough traction from users enough to justify a dedicated tab. After all, most of the time it was referred to more by mistake than by design.

Instagram changes coming very soon

In the same video, Adam Mosseri commented that this “news” will reach all users in February. Everything points to the company’s attempt to return to its roots.. Recall that a couple of months ago, the biggest celebrities created a campaign in which they asked Instagram to “become Instagram again.” Something that even the Kardashians promoted on their accounts, giving it a lot of popularity.

For his part, Mosseri says it’s a change that aims to: “Simplify Instagram and focus more on what we’re trying to do. We’re trying to bring people together for what they like.” To do this, they want to focus on three points: inspire, discover and connect.

However, Instagram’s philosophy may not be the only reason for this move. As reported edge, an internal document makes clear that instructions have been given by Instagram to disable in-app purchase features. Thus, the company can focus on more profit-oriented business efforts through advertising.

It also seems to be a matter of strategy on a psychological level. Moving the Create button to the center of the screen gives more priority to content creation., and not to its consumption, as it was in Instagram until now. So perhaps the company can reach higher shares and face TikTok, its biggest competitor to date.
