The world’s largest chipmaker reported a record annual profit of $34 billion. Taiwan Semiconductor managed to achieve such results against the backdrop of the global semiconductor crisis and the failure of its main competitor: Samsung Electronics’ quarterly profit fell 75%.

World’s largest chipmaker posts record annual profit

Profits for the last quarter of 2022 and last year as a whole were records for TSMC since the company was founded in 1987, Reuters writes.

In the fourth quarter of 2022, the world’s leading microprocessor maker posted a profit of $9.72 billion ($5.46 billion a year earlier), on revenue of $19.93 billion, up 26, 7% more year on year.

Last year, TSMC generated revenue of $75.9 billion with net profit of $34.08 billion.

Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC posted record financial results amid the global semiconductor crisis as well as the failure of its main competitor. South Korea’s Samsung Electronics in the fourth quarter of 2022 received the lowest profit in the past 8 years. Between October and December it amounted to $3.4 billion, falling 69% year-on-year.
