Global smartphone shipments in 2022 accounted for 11% and amounted to almost 1.2 billion devices, according to data from analyst firm Canalys. This is a record drop in the last 10 years.

Smartphone vendors have struggled in difficult macroeconomic conditions throughout 2022. The fourth quarter marks a less significant annual performance for the decade.

Last year, only Samsung and Apple measured a 2% rise in cases. They also became leaders in the smartphone market, ranking first and second respectively.

The remaining producers faced a fall. Following Samsung and Apple are Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo.

Canalys predicts that in 2023, smartphone bundles will either remain the same or increase slightly. Growth will have an impact on the slowdown in economic growth, the growing severity of the labor market and high global inflation. [Engadget]
