The Helsinki District Court satisfied the demand of the Finnish Central Criminal Police and seized €120,000 that Roman Rotenberg paid to the local tax authorities as a tax for a spa hotel near Helsinki. Finnish authorities suspected that this was how Roman Rotenberg helped his father, billionaire Boris Rotenberg, evade EU sanctions.

The Finnish court stopped the tax payment of Boris Rotenberg’s son at 120 thousand euros on suspicion of evading EU sanctions

Finnish police suspected that by paying taxes, Roman Rotenberg helped his father circumvent EU sanctions legislation, Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reports.

The money was paid for the Langvik Spa Hotel, which is located in Kirkkonummi, 30 km from Helsinki. According to the newspaper, it is owned by Centrum Tanskarla, which in turn is owned by Roman Rotenberg’s Langvik Capital.

Boris Rotenberg’s son was not placed on the EU sanctions list, but Langvik Capital’s shares were seized in September last year. The Helsingin Sanomat newspaper noted that the property was registered in the name of Roman Rotenberg, but, as is clear from “official documents”, the older Rotenbergs – Roman’s father and uncle Boris and Arkady – and their companies in Cyprus provided Langvik Capital a total of more than 34 million euros.

The brothers Arkady and Boris Rotenberg were under US sanctions in 2014. In July of the same year, the EU also imposed sanctions against Arkady Rotenberg. In March 2022, Washington announced new personal sanctions against the Russians, Arkady and Boris Rotenberg fell under US blockade sanctions. In April last year Boris Rotenberg was added to the EU sanctions list.
