Last Tuesday (31), Microsoft ended the sale of Windows 10 on its official store. After this, activation keys or physical copies can only be purchased from authorized resellers.

Currently, it is still possible to find the operating system license at approximately retailers. 800 BRL and 1,100 BRL for Home and Pro editionsrespectively.

Installation tools will continue to be available

For now, the company don’t plan to uninstall install tools and media creation. In this way, it will still be possible to download and install the system officially, but activation is dependent on the user already having a digital license.

Windows 10 download will also continue to be available through the MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) platform. However, it is worth emphasizing that this is a service for developers.

The measure aims to expand the installed base of Windows 11 by blocking new entries in the previous version. With this, it’s possible to migrate development teams to the current system, keeping only the necessary personnel for patches and support in the previous version.

Support will end only in 2025

THEM Windows 10 official support will end on October 14, 2025. Users who have not migrated by then will continue to receive updates.

Windows 10 support ends on October 14, 2025

Generally speaking, the end of new license sales also means the end of active development for the platform. In this way future patches should only cover security fixeswithout adding new features.

Since the 21H2 version of Windows 10, new versions are released every year at the end of the second half. While three major patches are still expected, the long cycles between updates leave room for security vulnerabilities, which is another reason to embrace Windows 11.
