The National Fitness Community (NFS) expects to open 400 new fitness facilities in 2023 throughout Russia. At the same time, the Association of Operators of the Fitness Industry (AOFI) believes that the increase is due to “small-format gyms and studios” with an initial investment of 1 to 9 million rubles.

Up to 400 new gyms to open in Russia: forecast by the National Fitness Community

The optimistic forecast assumes that the total number of gyms will grow to 8.6 thousand installations (5% more than at the end of 2022), Kommersant writes with reference to the NSF.

NSF President Elena Silina expects about 400 new clubs to open. AOFI President Olga Kiseleva predicts up to 500 discoveries (with reference to FitnesData calculations).

Of these, 340-420 will be chambers, and the rest will occupy surfaces of 500 square meters or more. M. The trend of opening small rooms and studios has been relevant since 2020.

The director of development and franchising of X-Fit in Russia, Irina Troska, explains this by the fact that small formats pay off faster.

In the context of inflation and declining household income, public services are in greater demand than full physical preparation, which is more expensive.

At the end of January, gym attendance was up 9.3% compared to January 2022.

Sales of cards (8.6%) and additional services (4.6%) are also growing compared to 2022. But if we analyze the indicators in the context of the 2020 figures, sales of cards and additional services continue to be 4-5% lower.

“If the trend continues, the industry will fully recover to the pre-crisis level by the end of the year,” Elena Silina believes.

Experts attribute the revival of the fitness services market to a partial recovery in consumer activity due to the redistribution of population budgets (customers now invest their travel savings in sports and entertainment in the Russian Federation).
