Some Galaxy S23 users have posted screenshots of the My Files app showing the operating system (labeled “System”) consuming 68GB (or more) on a 512GB Galaxy S23 Ultra.

However, by default My Files consolidates operating system footprint, pre-installed apps, and user-installed apps (and their data) under System. If you click the “i” icon next to the “Applications” category, it will ask for “My Files” access permission. After granting this permission, the actual amount of memory used by the operating system will be displayed.

Also, keep in mind that when you buy a hard drive or solid state drive, you may not get the full advertised storage capacity. So when you buy a 1TB drive, you get about 931GB of actual space. Similarly, when you buy a 512GB device, you get about 477GB of actual space.

The actual storage capacity for the 512GB Galaxy S23 Ultra is 477GB. 35 GB is not enough for the declared capacity. Samsung decided to add the missing space to the System partition. Therefore, the actual system storage (25GB) and the missing storage capacity (35GB) are combined.
