In laboratory experiments, goldenrod extracts and eagle fern rhizomes blocked the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into human cells. Both plants can be found in North America. They are known to Native Americans as traditional medicines.

Experts reportedly used more than 1800 extracts and 18 compounds from a library of thousands of compounds isolated from plants and fungi around the world. All this to find a potential cure for COVID-19.

Scientists explain that active compounds are found in plants only in trace amounts, which makes self-medication with their help dangerous.
