Hong Kong is the first in the world to successfully place tokenized green bonds

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced the successful placement of tokenized “green” government bonds. The placement amount was HK$800 million, or approximately $101.7 million, and the tokens were issued on a private blockchain.

So-called green bonds are issued to attract investment in environmental projects. The tokenization of such securities is a pilot project of the Hong Kong authorities in the virtual asset market. The yield of the bonds is 4.05% per year, the maturity is one year.

Earlier, the Hong Kong authorities, after talks with representatives of 58 companies, decided to introduce compulsory licenses of stablecoins, currencies whose peg to the fiat rate is provided by algorithms, and not by means that exist in the real world.
