“Burger King” began to sell burgers with a vegetable meat cutlet from the mayonnaise manufacturer “Sloboda”. “Vegan Whopper” is made with vegan mayonnaise and is currently only sold in restaurants in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
A representative of the chain spoke about the appearance of new items in Burger King restaurants.
The Vegan Whopper is made from a plant-based meat patty from the Hi company (Efko group of companies), which produces mayonnaise under the Sloboda brand. Vegan mayonnaise produced by the same company is also used in the preparation of the hamburger.
“There are no fast food restaurants in Russia where non-meat-eating guests feel comfortable, and the demand for plant-based meat is significant,” said Ivan Shestov, Burger King Russia communications director.
According to a study commissioned by Burger King, 11% of restaurant customers prefer to see a plant-based meat burger instead of a traditional one.
Vegan Whopper is sold at Burger King restaurants in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The company allows the launch of new items in other regions based on the sales results in the pilot cities.
The Efko group of companies began supplying Moscow restaurants with vegetable burgers in November 2022.
