In 2022, the Russian edtech market attracted 4 billion rubles of investment. This is 3.5 times less than in 2021, when about 14 billion rubles were invested. Among the reasons for the fall are the end of the effect of a rebound in asset investment during and after the pandemic, the geopolitical situation and the outflow of international funds.

Investments in the Russian edtech market fell 3.5 times

The total revenue of the top 100 edtech companies in Russia increased by 17.95% last year, to 87 billion rubles, Vedomosti reported with reference to Smart Ranking. In 2021, the growth rate of the 100 largest companies in the field of online education was 70%, estimated there.

Market representatives doubt that in 2023 investments in the sector will return to the level of previous years, since the risks of 2022 are still relevant. At the same time, at the end of February, the largest deal in the history of the Russian edtech market took place: VK bought 75% of the educational platform Uchi.ru.

Analysts believe that this year investors will redeploy their funds in favor of Russian edtech startups in Central and Southeast Asia, India and South America.
