Face ID won’t be coming to Mac anytime soon to replace Touch ID
Amid touchscreen Mac rumors, Gurman took the time to point out that Face ID won’t be coming anytime soon
In an article referencing Apple and its first MacBook with a touchscreen, Mark Gurman assures that the Mac with Face ID is years away from becoming a reality. Despite past rumors that may confirm this, change will not come immediately. Touch ID is quite functional, we should also take into account that Mac users with Apple Watch can unlock it in a few seconds.
In recent years, there have been rumors that the Mac with Face ID feature will still not arrive.
Four years ago, Gurman stated that Face ID would come to Mac “within a few years,” but this did not happen. The first Mac to have this would be the iMac with M1 chip. The following year, He stated that Apple is working on this task in 2022, but he no longer dares to confirm when it will happen.. Which Now the surprising thing is that there is no updated information on this subject anymore.
Interestingly,* a senior Apple executive stated in a 2021 Gurman rumor that the Mac does not have Face ID because Touch ID is “more convenient.” This makes perfect sense, as our fingers are very important when using it and are naturally the first thing we do after opening the lid.

Touchscreen Mac may hinder the arrival of Face ID
Gurman’s article on touchscreen Macs indicates that they already have the codenames K114 and K116. They could be released in late 2026 or early 2027. The incredible thing is that this rumor is in the middle of a refresh of the future MacBook Pro, which will feature a redesign and OLED display. It would be one of the features that would attract attention, but for this it would have to be justified why it has a touch screen, even though it was said that it was not necessary for it to have a touch screen before and that is why the iPad existed.
What makes us uncertain about the issue is that the current macOS interface does not invite you to make it touch-sensitive.So it’s something users are already used to with the iPad. And we can’t ignore the fact that when our fingers touch this Mac screen, fingerprints will inevitably remain there. Want to see a touchscreen Mac soon?

Apple may have changed its mind about touchscreen MacBook
The only way Face ID makes sense is if we can tap the screen or activate and unlock it right in front of our eyes. While we doubt we’ll see a design that allows the MacBook to be opened completely, it would be incredible if the Mac could be used by simply touching the screen. The keyboard is disposable like other manufacturers. In the meantime, we just have to wait for new information that will enable Face ID to come to Mac.
