Since the beginning of the year in Russia, the number of DDoS attacks that serve as a cover for other malicious activities has increased by 35%. The purpose of such attacks is to disable the IT infrastructure or hack the system to gain unauthorized access to user or company data. This is stated in the StormWall study, the results of which were reviewed by RB.RU.
The attackers planned to use the data obtained for further extortion or blackmail.
The hackers used a DDoS attack to divert attention from entering the organization or displaying information already obtained. If the company did not have a reliable solution to repel a DDoS attack, information security officers are forced to direct all efforts to protect the IT infrastructure from the attack, weakening the protection of systems from other dangers, says the study.
Analysts have revealed that since the beginning of the year, the largest number of such attacks have been carried out in the fintech sphere, retail and the gaming industry.
To prevent such incidents, StormWall recommended that the company enable professional DDoS protection. In addition, it is also worth regularly auditing the security of the IT infrastructure to identify bottlenecks that increase the risk of DDoS attacks.
