An iPhone from 16 years ago might not be that surprising or good for use today, but it still has some value. An original copy, still sealed, was auctioned this Sunday for US$190,372.80, almost R$918,000 (16).

The 4GB model was still in the box, sealed in plastic. Sold by LCG Auctions. According to the auctioneer, the original device is considered the “Holy Grail” among collectors, as the version with this repository was discontinued just two months after its release.

The new owner of the handset was not disclosed, but the seller of the device was part of Apple’s engineering team in 2007. Buyers will receive the mobile phone in its original factory packaging, still with all seals..

In 2022, LCG Auctions sold a much cheaper original 8GB sealed iPhone for around $40,000. For comparison, a closed iPhone 8 sold for $63,300.

When it went on sale on June 29, 2007, the first iPhone was priced at $499 and the 8GB for $599. That day the dollar cost R$1.92, which dropped the price of the mobile phone from R$960 to R$1,150. It is possible to update the value between R$3,025 to R$3,623.70, using the Central Bank Citizen Calculator.
