Automaker Ford has received a patent for an automatic vehicle impound system. In case of late payments on a car loan, the bank will be able to deliver the car to the specified place via autopilot, the system will estimate its cost and offer the bank ways to sell the confiscated property.
Ford has been awarded a patent for a system that automatically returns a car to a bank if the owner makes several late payments on a loan.
If the car owner allows late payments on the loan, the system gives you several warnings. If ignored, the bank that issued the car loan can remotely disable some car functions or make it impossible for the owner to use the vehicle, for example, lock the doors.
If the warnings are completely ignored, the system can give the bank the right to turn on the autopilot and send the car to the specified location. The system will also help the bank calculate the market value of the seized car and suggest ways to sell it.
Ford applied for a patent in 2021. Widespread practical application of the system will be possible when authorities approve appropriate technologies for unmanned driving, experts stressed.
