A fascinating discovery toilet which is 2200 to 2400 years old and was part of the Chinese Han Dynasty defies history.

The discovery was made by researchers from the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, who were excavating two large buildings in the ruins of a palace in the city of Yueyang.

And most surprisingly, it calls into question the theory that the invention of modern toilets came from Victorian England.

As Fan Mingyang, an ancient instrument design expert, explained:

The toilet is deceptively advanced due to the flushing system in use today. Last summer, a broken toilet bowl, other parts, and a pipe leading to an open well were discovered. The “luxury item” was most likely used only by high-ranking members of the palace in China’s Shaanxi province. The servants had to pour water into the toilet each time it was used.

This is the first and only flush toilet found in China. Everyone on the site was shocked and then laughed.
