Roskomnadzor has prohibited Russian financial institutions from transmitting certain information to clients through foreign couriers. At the end of last year, the State Duma approved the corresponding law, which began to operate on March 1.

RKN banned banks from providing services via Telegram, WhatsApp* and other instant messengers

Restrictions included:

  1. Discord
  2. Microsoft Teams
  3. skype for business
  4. Snapchat
  5. Telegram
  6. tresma
  7. viber
  8. WhatsApp*
  9. wechat

In addition to banks, the new rules also affect brokers, management companies, depositories, non-state pension funds and insurance companies.

Earlier, the Association of Banks of Russia decided to apply to the RKN not to limit customer service via Telegram. According to the vice president of the organization, Alexey Voluykov, the platform serves only as an interface, all operations are secure.

VTB already has its own mobile bank on Telegram, plans to launch a similar service on Alfa-Bank were also reported.
