The complaints came from the charity 5Rights and the father of three. The statement states that YouTube violates children’s privacy rights by illegally collecting data about children’s locations, browsing histories and preferences.

If such violations are confirmed, YouTube may impose a fine of 4% of worldwide annual revenue.

“As a regulator, we want children’s online data to be protected. Otherwise we will take action,” said Steven Bonner, vice president of the ICO.
