Bluesky Social, the new social network from former Twitter owner and creator Jack Dorsey, is now available for download on iOS devices from the App Store. The app appears to be in “private beta” – meaning it’s even downloadable, but you can only create your account if you have an invitation.
Missing the Orkut times will remember what it was like to wait for an invitation or ask friends to join the social network startup. The logic is the same. Although it is not possible to log in immediately, we can already see the images of the platform in the App Store and realize what is expected: Bluesky is very similar to Twitter.
It is included not only for visuals, but also in the reports of users. staff TechCrunch did a test and called Bluesky “a Twitter skeleton”. The functions are basically the same, only changing the names of some actions. Another difference is that Bluesky does not support DMs.
The biggest differences are behind the net
It is only natural that Bluesky is extremely similar to Twitter because the idea behind its creation is in its ideology, not its everyday use. Dorsey wants a decentralized, open-source network where decisions on content control would not be made by the board of directors of a private company.
That’s how Mastodon works, for example – a network that saw rapid growth after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter caused an exit from the platform. Bluesky even uses a protocol called Authenticated Transport (AT), similar to the mammoth ActivityPub.
However, only when the network exits beta will we be able to make any predictions about its possible success or failure. Since the download is already available on the App Store, it shouldn’t take too long for a wide release to be released.
