Taiwanese company Foxconn will build a plant in India to produce parts for the iPhone. Foxconn is a global partner of Apple, which previously announced serious intentions to move a significant part of its production from China to India.
A new plant for the production of parts for the iPhone will appear in the Indian city of Bangalore, writes Bloomberg. The appearance of new production will create up to 100 thousand new jobs.
Taiwanese company Foxconn, which is Apple’s global partner, will build the plant. Foxconn intends to invest $700 million in production, which will be one of the largest investments in the Indian region in recent years, the agency said.
Some of Apple’s iPhones are already being produced in India. Foxconn and its partners opened a device manufacturing plant in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu in 2017.
In January, India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said Apple intends to increase the share of its own Indian-made products to 25%. According to the minister, at the moment this share is 5-7%.
