If you have type 2 diabetes, it is especially important to monitor your blood sugar levels. Scientific research shows it’s great raisins.
Raisins are rich in polyphenols, fiber, iron and other beneficial substances. Therefore, it is considered a snack food with a good nutritional profile.
Also, a study published in the Journal of Nutritional Science states that raisins can lower blood sugar within two hours. Previous scientific papers suggest that moderate consumption of fruit-derived fructose has a positive effect on blood sugar levels.
Participants in the new study were given a variety of food choices for two to eight weeks. The first option contained white bread, the second – 69 g of raisins and 50 g of available carbohydrates, the third – 28 g of raisins and 20 g of available carbohydrates. It turned out that both meals with raisins resulted in people’s significantly lower blood sugar levels and insulin response compared to eating white bread.
