After introducing the first elements of Artificial Intelligence in Windows 11, Microsoft also plans to use the technology to improve the personalization of the desktop. A new tool will be added depth effects on wallpaper images.

The new “AI Powered Depth Effects” feature is already in development but not yet available in the Windows Insider Program. As such, it’s impossible to state when or if it will reach the general public soon.

Other tools using AI

In early 2023, Microsoft invested more than $10 billion in the OpenAI platform. The purpose of the investment was precisely to accelerate research in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

The initiative also guarantees big technology the possibility to develop proprietary tools to implement in its products. Windows 11 received updates introducing ChatGPT and Bing, artificial intelligence functions to the start menu, and Depth Effects, which suggests other news should be coming soon.

One of the benefits of AI, as observed in technologies like DLSS and FidelityFX, is optimizing system performance by delegating certain processes to specific cores. However, it is unclear whether deep applications targeting such optimization will come to the current version of the system or only to Windows 12.
