A study by HostGator revealed that in 2022, .br domains (representing Brazilian websites) are among the 10 most used domains worldwide. At the end of 2022, sites ending in .br had around 5 million global records.

At the top of the list was .com, which ended with approximately 161 million records. The top 10 most used domains (plus data provided by the American company Verisign) can be seen below:

  • .com – 160.9 million records;
  • .cn – 18 million records;
  • .de – 17.3 million records;
  • .net – 13.2 million records;
  • .uk – 11.1 million records;
  • .org – 10.6 million records;
  • .nl – 6.3 million records;
  • .ru – 5.7 million records;
  • .br – 5 million records;
  • .xyz – 4.2 million records.

Top 10 among countries with the most registrations

Again, when talking about our country, .br domain names are among the most registered ones in the world in the last year. However, in this ranking, the extension has climbed several places and is currently in sixth place.

The top 10 endings for the country of origin are as follows:

  • .cn – 18 million records;
  • .de – 17.3 million records;
  • .uk – 11.1 million records;
  • .nl – 6.3 million records;
  • .ru – 5.7 million records;
  • .br – 5 million records;
  • .au – 4 million records;
  • .fr – 4 million records;
  • .eu – 3.7 million records.
  • .it – ​​3.5 million records

“These numbers show that the Brazilian market has a lot of room to grow when we talk about accommodation. “Our expectation is that 2023 will continue to help us see an increase in the number of these domains over the next few months,” said Ricardo Melo, Vice President of Marketing at HostGator Brasil.
