Subscribers can choose from three title sizes (small, medium and large) and four color combinations. In addition to standard white text on a transparent background, users can control the styles of shadow (white letters on a black background), light (black text on a white background), and contrast (yellow text on a black background).

Big screens like smart TVs are the main device for viewing streaming content. According to the company Conviva, In the first quarter of 2022, 77% of the minutes broadcast on video-on-demand (VOD) platforms were watched on televisions and game consoles.

Customization of subtitles is not exclusive to Netflix. Other companies such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Discovery+, HBO Max also offer this service. But Globoplay, the streaming platform with the most users in Brazil, does not yet offer this feature.

About a year ago, Netflix launched a badge to indicate content with accessibility options such as audio description and subtitles, without the need to access settings. The company has also expanded the rollout of these features and increased voice-overs in dozens of languages.

The company provides over 11,000 hours of audio commentary in over 30 languages. Additionally, Netflix has a catalog of 50 shows and movies about people with disabilities that support accessible viewing in the United States.
