The scientists obtained two mixtures from the flowers of the plant: one with phenolic extracts and the second with organic acid. Cell lines grown in the laboratory were treated with these mixtures. The cells treated with a phenolic extract mixture appeared to have 95% less fat content than the control.
Scientists have found that phenolic extracts inhibit the digestive enzyme lipase. So fat cannot be digested and passes through the colon. Now researchers have to better study the emerging drug.
